This is high time when you can build a rock hard foundation. If you plan to pursue management as a career, and don't know whether that is the right choice or not, read on to decide.
We bring forth certain personality characteristic that may come in quite handy if you want to become a manager and that too a successful one. Apart from having a good understanding of the concept of management and its principles, you will require to walk your talk. You just cannot preach without practicing!
A good manager must possess these traits to make management a successful career option.
You must be extremely reliable and trustworthy. Now that doesn't depend on you, right? Wrong! It depends on you a hundred percent. If you are responsible and never shirk responsibility, you will be relied upon and trusted.
Secondly, you must exude confidence. You cannot manage a team if you seem low on confidence. You may or may not be required to, but you must be able to work independently.
Commitment and hard work are also quite essential to become a successful manager. Again, if you are not committed yourself, you can't expect your team to be so. You've got to have the change you wish to see in your team.
You must be a good and efficient problem solver who can think creatively when prompt action is required. You must also be competent enough to be able to handle a team and their relationship. To sustain a healthy relationship among the team members is the responsibility of their manager. How many cricket teams have been successful with a bad manager?
Proper planning and time management to meet the targets, at the same time managing the quality of the output are also the tasks of a manager. You must be able to organize your work and the duties of your team members in such a manner that everyone is satisfied and the team works efficiently. Also, there must be a back-up plan to cover for contingencies like the unavailability of an important team member.
If you think that you have the above-mentioned personality traits, you can definitely go on to become a good manager and command the respect of your team, and of the rest of the people of the organization that you work for!
